Today we’re going to take a deep dive into the world of real estate, and we’re going to approach it from 2 sides:
First, we’ll talk about real estate as an investment (i.e. If you’ve ever thought about investing in a property and renting it out).
Now if you’ve listened to past episodes of the show, then you know that it can actually be really hard to get the numbers to work when buying a home and trying to rent it out as an investment. Today’s expert, however, is going to share some strategies with us that she uses to actually successfully invest, and make the numbers work, despite the high prices of real estate that we’ve been seeing.
Next, we’ll shift focus and talk about the different home buying tips, and expensive mistakes that you can avoid when buying a home for yourself. Even if you’ve bought a home in the past, I still recommend that you tune-in as the real estate market has likely changed since you last bought a home. Join me in welcoming today’s guest, Limor Markman, as she shares the latest money saving tips and ways to protect yourself, whether you’re buying a home for personal use, or as an investment.

This podcast is brought to you by Paytm.ca, where you can get up to 3% cashback on bills that you pay with the app, as opposed to the 0% that you’re currently getting at your bank. You can also finally start getting cash-back rewards on all those utility bills, property tax bills, tuition payments, and other bills that typically don’t accept credit cards and don’t earn you reward points or cash-back.
As a Build Wealth Canada listener, you’ll get $10 for free. Just go to paytm.ca on your phone or tablet, download the app, and use the promo code “buildwealth” (all lower case and one word) when making your first bill payment to get the $10 cashback. A big thanks to Paytm for supporting the show, and giving Build Wealth Canada listeners a free $10 just for trying the app.
Bonus:
Some more good news: I just found out that there is a refer-a-friend option with Paytm where if you use somebody’s referral code, both you and them will get another $10 added to your accounts.
Just enter the referral code after launching the app for the first time. My code is PTM4141796 so just enter that and we’ll both get an extra $10 free. This is in addition to you getting another $10 off your bill when using the code “buildwealth” when paying a bill (i.e. you’ll receive $20 for free in total).
I hope that helps! Once you’ve installed the app, feel free to share your own referral code (located in the app) with your friends so that both you and them get the $10, plus another $10 for using the code “buildwealth” when paying your bill.
Happy bill paying, and thanks again Paytm for letting us know about this tip! ?

September 26, 2017Yes that worked! $10 came through. Seems like a great app. Thanks for the content you are putting out there. Great to have a Canadian version of Choose FI/Mad Fientist.

September 26, 2017Awesome. Thanks for letting me know Harrison. I definitely like it too. I wish it was around when I was in university so that I could get some cash-back when paying all that tuition. At least now I get to be a bit less bitter when paying property tax 😉
Thanks for the kind words too Harrison. Comments like that make my day 🙂

September 25, 2017Referer code does not seem to be working for paytm…

September 25, 2017Thanks for the comment Harrison. I think I know why it wasn’t working for you: When you install the app, you have the option of adding a “referral code”. Leave that part blank. Instead, when you go to pay a bill, you will see the option to add a “promo code”. This is where you type in “buildwealth” to get $10 back. Does that make sense? I’ll be standing by in case you need more help. Thanks for posting in the comments section so that others can see the solution too.
All the best,
Kornel
